Religious Education Secretariat

The main objective of the Religious Education Secretariat is to oversee and assist in the effective implementation of the Bishop's approved and mandated Religious Education programs for the diocese within Catholic schools and parishes.

The office also oversees the formation process involved in preparing children for the Sacraments of Initiation and acts as a resource to parishes, families and schools involved in this process.

The department provides ongoing opportunities for Catechist formation as well as workshops and seminars for all called to the ministry of Catechises in the Church.

This Certificate Program is designed to give lay people the necessary Catechetical background to feel more confident in the following areas of Parish Ministry:

  • Sacramental Preparation
  • RCIA
  • Youth Ministry
  • Parish-based Catechesis

Together Enabling Adults in Ministry

This 3 year program is designed for lay persons and religious who are called to engage in collaborative ministries, to qualify them to serve in a credible, competent and effective manner in whatever ministerial role they are called to serve. Graduates currently are involved in a variety of parish ministries: RCIA, Catechetics, Pastoral Care, Youth Ministry, Parish Leadership, Street Ministry and various agencies dealing with the marginalized. About Us

The General Directory for Catechesis (GDC), published by the Vatican’s Congregation for the Clergy in 1997, outlines clearly and succinctly the role and mandate of the diocesan Office of Catechesis: The organization of catechetical pastoral care has as its reference point the Bishop and the Diocese. The diocesan catechetical office (Officium Catechisticum) is "the means which the Bishop as head of the community and teacher of doctrine utilizes to direct and moderate all the catechetical activities of the diocese".
