POPE FRANCIS' MESSAGE TO CANADIAN YOUTH - RELEASED THIS SUNDAY - OCT 22

COMMEMORATION OF THE REFORMATION LECTURE SERIES - OCT 12 TO NOV 2

Commemoration of the Reformation Lecture Series - 'Transformed by Love' : Martin Luther and Ignatius of Loyola, Renewers of the Church will take place on Thursdays, 7:00 pm—8:30 pm. October 12, 19, 26, November 2, 2017 at Hope Lutheran Church – 3527 Boulton Road NW. Free and open to the public.

The four part lecture series will explore the gifts and legacies of Luther and Ignatius in an appreciative and ecumenical spirit. Presenters -  Fr. Charles Pottie-Pate, SJ and Rev. Kristian, Hope Lutheran Church..

MAY PEACE BE WITH HER

The Development & Peace Fall Campaign's theme this year is "May Peace be with Her", focuses on women's role in building peace. All around the world, courageous women gather to fight and resist violence, working for a more peaceful world. When 35% of parliamentarians are women, the risk of a nation relapsing into conflict is near zero. Let us join our voices and ask the Canadian government to give women the resources they need in order to take their place at the heart of peacebuilding.

BISHOP'S DINNER - OCTOBER 19

Bishop McGrattan will host his very first Bishop’s Dinner on Thursday, October 19. This year’s theme is Youth & Vocations - Their Faith, The Church. Michael Chiasson will give the keynote address with Bishop McGrattan sharing his vision for youth in his closing remarks. Catholic singer/songwriter Janelle is our musical guest.

BLUE MASS - OCTOBER 22

The Knight of Columbus is inviting you to the Blue Mass at St Cecilia Church (321 90th Ave SE, Calgary, AB). On Sunday, October 22 at 1.30 pm. Let us ask God to protect and bless the First Responders for their safety and commitment in their work. The Blue Mass is a way of showing our appreciation for all First Responders that put their lives on the line every day for our community.

LEADERSHIP FORMATION WORKSHOP FOR YOUTH LEADERS - OCT 20-21

This fall the Office of Youth Ministry is recommending and encouraging all people working with youth and young adults to participate in a conference on Leadership Formation, on the weekend of October 20 & 21. Space is limited so please register as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

BEREAVEMENT CARE EDUCATION PROGRAM - OCT 27

The Diocesan Bereavement Care Education will teach you the skills to offer your presence and support in a caring way. This is a 2 part program held over two weekends, October 27 & 28 and November 3 & 4 at St. Bonaventure Parish, 1600 Acadia Drive SE. 

500 YEARS SINCE THE PROTESTANT REFORMATION: AN INTER CHRISTIAN PRAYER FOR RECONCILIATION - OCT 29

You are invited to join Lutherans and Catholics in a liturgy of singing and praying as we commemorate the gifts of the Reformation and ask for forgiveness for the division that we have perpetuated. Through thanksgiving and lament, we are lead to common witness and commitment to each other and the world. Bishop Larry Kochendorfer (Lutheran) & Bishop William McGrattan (Catholic) will preside. Anglican Archbishop Gregory Kerr-Wilson will deliver the sermon. The Common Prayer service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, 3527 Boulton Road NW on Sunday, October 29 at 5:00 pm.

EMERGENCY RELIEF

Catholic Charities and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in the Archdiocese of Galveston/Houston will be providing direct long-term assistance and case management services to victims displaced in flood in Texas. In Asia, Caritas organizations are responding to the needs in India, Nepal and Bangladesh by providing food, clean drinking water, and shelter. Emergency relief is also focused on preventing the spread of waterborne disease by delivering health, hygiene and sanitation support. Donations can be made ONLINE THROUGH THE DIOCESE WEBSITE or cheques can be forwarded to the Pastoral Centre (120-17 Ave SW., Calgary, AB T2S-2T2).

CATHOLIC PSYCHOTHERAPY CONFERENCE - NOV 3-4

The Catholic Psychotherapy Association of Canada is hosting its biennial conference at St Peter’s Parish November 3 & 4. The theme is ‘Be Not Anxious’ and its keynote and following panel discussion, open to anyone, will address conscience issues.

Parish Mission: Longing For Jesus - Nov 12-14

St. Anthony's Parish welcomes everyone to come to their Parish Mission in preparation for the season of Advent. The theme of the mission is: Longing For Jesus, with Fr. Thomas Rosica, CEO of Salt & Light TV. The three-evenings mission will begin on Sunday (November 12) to Tuesday (November 14), starts at 7 PM at St. Anthony's Church (5340-4th St SW, Calgary).

RED MASS - NOV 15

The Red Mass is a celebration for people employed in the administration of justice as judges, lawyers, paralegals, assistants, law enforcement officers, civic leaders, law students, and others. It will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, (219-18 Ave SW, Calgary). Bishop McGrattan presiding, with a reception afterwards featuring a presentation by Fr. Cristino Bouvette.  All are welcome.  

LAY ASSOCIATION SEMINAR WITH BISHOP McGRATTAN - NOV 18

All lay associations are encouraged to attend this seminar with Bishop McGrattan and Fr. Adrian Martens, Episcopal Vicar for Lay Associations from 10 AM to 2 PM on Nov. 18, 2017 at the Catholic Pastoral Centre (120-17th Ave SW, Calgary). The Seminar will include lunch, and will have a limit of 4 persons per lay association. The day will cover the concept of lay associations in canon law and the mission of the Church in both the diocese and your local parish. All are encouraged to attend, even if your group is unsure of your actual canonical status or do not yet have a charitable incorporation with the government. Registration is just $10.00 per person and covers lunch and free parking for the first 50 cars.

MEMORIAL LITURGY: A PRAYER SERVICE FOR THOSE MOURNING THE LOSS OF A CHILD THROUGH MISCARRIAGE OR STILLBIRTH - NOV 24

When families lose a baby in the womb, the cries of birth go unheard; the grasp of tiny fingers slips away. This profound loss needs articulation.  Join us in a prayer gathering to commend our children communally into the embrace of our merciful God and to support those who are grieving the loss of a child. A memorial prayer service for those mourning the loss of a child thorugh miscarriage or stillbirth will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 at 7pm, at Sacred Heart Church (1307 14 St SW, Calgary, AB). 

Listening to god's Voice Retreat - Nov 25

Learn how to open your heart and listen to God’s voice as did the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is a special retreat for single women (ages 16-35) interested in looking at Religious life. This retreat is being offered by Sisters from various Religious communities and provides an occasion when single women can interact with them in a prayerful setting. Retreat will be hosted at Holy Name Catholic Church, 2223 – 34 St. S.W., Calgary on Saturday, November 25, 2017; Time: 8:30 AM to 4 PM (lunch is provided). Fr. Cristino Bouvette will be providing Holy Mass, and a Holy Hour of Adoration, with an opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Still my heart, Lord, that I may listen to Your voice.

WANTED: SACRAMENTAL COORDINATOR AT ST. PIUS X PARISH (PART TIME)

St. Pius X Parish is looking for a Sacramental Coordinator: First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation to work on a part time employment basis, This position will require working some evenings and weekends.  In addition, the successful candidate must have strong: computer skills (Microsoft Office and Outlook), organizational and people skills. The employment opportunity will be posted until a suitable candidate is found.

WANTED: MUSIC MINISTER AT ST. PIUS X PARISH (Part time)

St. Pius X Parish is looking for a piano accompanist to work on a part time employment basis, in particular to play piano at the Sunday 9 AM masses and includes practices on Thursday evenings from 7pm to 8:30pm.  The primary objective is to prepare for and support the 9AM liturgy.  The employment opportunity will be posted until a suitable candidate is found.

WANTED: DIOCESAN YOUTH RETREAT TEAM (PART TIME)

The Diocesan Youth Ministry team is looking for five (5) DYRT members to work on a casual – part time employment basis.  The Diocesan Youth Retreat Team (DYRT) offers year-round retreats for young people within the Diocese.  The primary objective is to offer retreats for parishes especially in the area of sacramental preparation for the sacraments of First Holy Communion, First Reconciliation and Confirmation.  The team also provides year round retreats for Catholic Schools within the diocese. 

MARRIAGE PREPARATION "FOR BETTER & FOR EVER"

“For Better & For Ever…” Marriage Preparation, accepts all couples preparing for marriage. Due to the small group setting it allows us to focus on couples in one or more of the following circumstances: living together, previously married, beginning marriage with children, couples 45+, or those who wish to have their marriage blessed in the Church.  

PROJECT RACHEL POST ABORTION COUNSELLING

The ministry offers a journey of healing and reconciliation for women and men who are suffering distress from a past abortion experience. Clients will be referred to a professional counselor who specializes in dealing with the trauma associated with this experience.  

EFFECTIVE CO-PARENTING:  PUTTING KIDS FIRST 

An educational 5-week program for separated and divorced parents to help raise their children through this difficult time and increase the understanding of needs of children for developing self-esteem and security. It will offer skills to help manage diverse shared parenting situations and provide strategies to improve communication, resolve conflict, and manage day-to-day issues between parenting partners. Parents are encouraged to attend separately. The next program will run 7:00pm - 9:00pm in the fall of 2017. 

CONSECRATION OF CANADA TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Parishes are invited to hold a parish celebration on one or more Saturdays within the anniversary year (July 1 2017 to July 1 2018). Prayer templates, prayer card and catechetical materials are available on the Office of Liturgy website.
