Sing at OneRock Mass (WYD at Home)

The Diocese of Calgary is joining forces with five other Diocese in Alberta to reach all of our youth and young adults. One Rock, which has been a home for vibrant faith-filled Christian music festival for young adults and their families in the past three years, will be a home for WORLD YOUTH DAY AT HOME 2013.

The liturgies will be held on Saturday, July 27 (11 am) and Sunday July 28 (Noon). Both liturgies will be accompanied with the BISHOPS OF ALBERTA and the priests and deacons throughout these dioceses. Come and join the festive celebration. We welcome all singers - all ages and experience!

We have asked Jean-Louis Bleau (who is the current director for the Mount Royal University Youth Chorus, the Cum Vino Cantus choir, the Calgary Men's Chorus, and the choir at Calgary's St. Gerard's Parish) to be the music director for One Rock liturgies. His passion for choral music is evident through his unique and expressive conducting style and his enthusiastic approach to rehearsals. Come and share Jean-Louis' vision for the liturgical music at One Rock 2013, and be a part of the historic centennial event of the year! (even if it's only to check-out the other side of this picture)

So, what's the requirements?

  • Attendance at all 3 rehearsals. Exceptions made only in consultation with the music director.

A Roman Catholic Vision for Liturgical Media Art

Ready for a workshop about using media in parishes and schools (especially teachers, musicians, artists, and media technicians)?

Many of our churches and schools are using media in worship. Given the sacramental and liturgical nature of Catholic worship, we need a new model for the use of media art in Catholic worship, one that respects the dynamics and flow of Catholic liturgy and one that supports our call to all the faithful for their full, conscious, active participation (internally and externally).

The Western Conference of Liturgy presents a dynamic workshop with Dr. Eileen Crowley to explore the appropriate use of presentational technologies in Catholic worship.

  • Friday October 18 (7-10 pm) & Saturday October 19 (9 am – 4 pm)
  • St. Gerard's Church, Calgary.

Details and registration information coming soon!

WCC Conference: Evangelizing through the Lens of Faith and Culture

People come to the Church for many reasons.  Among them are:  deeper meaning, community, or simply to get their children into the Catholic School. They may also come with a cultural worldview that is different than ours (e.g., Asian, African, Hispanic, rural, postmodern, etc.).  Some are baptized in other Christian traditions.  Others have no concept of who Jesus is. This gives our ministry a tremendous opportunity and many challenges for evangelization.

Western Conference for the Catechumenate is holding a conference to explore these issues.  In addition, it will also explore the unique dimensions of initiation peculiar to the baptized.

"Evangelizing through the Lens of Faith and Culture"

The Second Vatican Council

What was it and why is it important today?

Episcopal Commission for Doctrine Canadian Conference of Catholic BishopsOctober 11, 2012. This year the Catholic Church celebrates the 50th anniversary of a momentous event: the opening of the Second Vatican Council. Today, however, many Catholics – particularly the young – have scarcely heard of the Council, while others may know very little about it...
