2017 World Day of Migrants Mass - Photo Album

Hundreds came and celebrate the World Day of Migrants with Bishop McGrattan on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, June 29, 2017. Bishop McGrattan led everyone in prayer with a celebration of Eucharist, followed by a reception of international potluck at the parish hall.

The Diocese of Calgary thanks the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society for their involvement and generous donation, all the liturgical ministers, participating communities and choirs, and the generous donations of food at the reception! It was truly a feast! Thank you everyone!

Alberta Bishops’ Submission to the Subject Panel regarding Physician Assisted Death

The bishops of Alberta responded to the government’s request to make a submission to the subject panel regarding Physician Assisted Death.

The four-page submission highlighted the Catholic Church’s commitment as a faith community to protect and care for the most vulnerable in our society; the importance sustainable funding for healthcare and social services, access to essential services including palliative care; the Catholic perspective that intentional, wilful act of killing oneself or another human being is always morally wrong; the grave concern that the legalization of assisted suicide and euthanasia will place certain members of our common home at risk; the rights of physicians and other healthcare workers to exercise their conscience.

All in all, the bishops agree that the "Catholic Church and her institutions will always serve the vulnerable and suffering in our society. At the same time, however, we cannot as individuals and as institutions participate in, condone or advocate for physician assisted suicide or euthanasia."

We recommend that you read the full submission and pass this along to your community.
